Design Engineering Manager | Aerospace / CASR 21M Authority | Aviation Pioneer

This dynamic aviation innovator has assembled a collection of some of the finest multi-disciplined aerospace and aeronautical engineers in Australia. Having designed, developed and demonstrated their first-of-its-kind prototype to both civil and Defence audiences, the company has attracted tens of millions in funding through private equity and Commonwealth grants, with the directive of realising the platform's full potential for Australian and global customers.

So impressive is the product suite, the company already boasts a backlog of sales orders as unit production kicks into full gear. Their unique craft combine the range, stability and speed of a fixed wing aircraft, with the maneuverability and agility of a rotary wing – all the while, operating at a fraction of the cost of traditional air vehicles. Interest from multinatonal customers, particularly across Western countries, is palpable. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, the Design Engineering Manager will operate in tandem with the Chief Engineer, and take responsibility for leading the design, development, build and test of a portfolio of aircraft. You will assist to architect a product roadmap that will likely bear your professional signature for many decades to follow.

The Design Engineering Manager will ideally bring to the table:

  • Demonstrated, senior background leading complex aviation / aerospace design, build and modification projects
  • Strong understanding of CASR / DASR regulatory requirements
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
  • A creative, pragmatic approach, willingness to innovate, and cast iron sense of humour
  • The ability to gain and maintain an Australian security clearance (Australian citizenship minimum)
  • An engineering degree (or equivalent) within a relevant discipline
Perhaps you've previously existed within a big brand, global aviation engineering giant whose last great industry advancement occurred in the early 2000's. You may have invested a decade+ of your life to Australia's outstanding armed forces, but been forced to follow an estalbished product roadmap cemented in bedrock several Federal administrations ago. Maybe you've even leapt into a dynamic start-up that boasted huge promise but substantially lacked in engineering rigour, commercial acumen, established infrastructure and/or financial resources. By contrast, this organisation is an impressively led, well-structured and financed Australian OEM with an exceptional incumbent team, high profile private and public backers, and multinational interest that runs off the back of mounting sales orders.
