THE HOSPITAL

This modern 150 + bed hospital provides acute care facilities for residents of the region within Tasmania, serving a population of around 116,000.


Their high-quality health care facility provides services such as sub-acute care, emergency care, non-admitted care, primary healthcare, palliative care, oral health, cancer screening, mental health and alcohol and drug services.


The Emergency Department sees an annual presentation rate of 28,000 patients per year with a 28% admission rate and are staffed by 12 Fellows of the Australian College of Emergency Medicine along with other senior clinical staff.


The department treats a broad range of patients including major trauma cases and is the referral centre for several district hospitals.

Their Emergency Department is ACEM accredited for 24 months of core emergency training.

THE POSITION
Our client is seeking multiple experienced Emergency Registrars for their busy Emergency Department.


The Emergency Registrars are responsible for providing high level of emergency clinical services in a high quality and safe environment.


You will be supported and encouraged to expand your training in emergency medicine and education to become an integral member of their team.

IMG's who are eligible for the Short-Term Training Pathway, Standard Pathway or Competent Authority Pathway are welcome to apply.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES, ACTIVITIES AND DUTIES

  • Provide medical care under the supervision and direction of senior medical staff.
  • Document relevant clinical information and inpatient charts accurately, concisely, and legibly.
  • Ensure discharge summaries and other correspondence are completed with minimum delay and that all such correspondence is complete prior to leaving the unit.
  • Conduct interviews, examinations and the identification of clinical problems including daytoday review of patients.
  • Arrange investigations, surgical treatment, medical treatment, and discharge as directed by the assigned consultant.
  • Assist with surgical procedures and outpatient clinics as directed by the Consultant.
  • Provide support for junior and senior medical staff as required.
  • Assist with case presentations at teaching meetings where necessary.
  • Participate in clinical meetings undertaken within the appropriate clinical unit.
  • Participate in afterhours shift roster as required by the Clinical Director, Department of Emergency Medicine.
  • Assist with teaching junior medical staff and including clinical education and support.
  • Participate in continual professional development and medical education.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Fully registered or eligible for registration as a medical practitioner with APRHA.
  • Standard Pathway (AMC Part 1 complete), Short-Term Training Pathway, and Competent Authority IMG's welcome.
  • Current experience relevant to the position of Emergency Medicine Registrar.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to work a 24/7 rotating roster including weekends, nights, and public holidays.
  • Evidence of involvement in continuing professional development.
  • Proven reliability in work within personal level of expertise and seeking assistance as needed from senior staff.
  • Demonstrated interest in assisting interns and residents to extend their clinical skills and knowledge.

THE LOCATION
Full of colour and flavour, this location is the gateway to some of Tasmania's most beautiful natural places. Exploring this location, you'll find classic coastal drives, food trails, stunning national parks and beautiful nature reserves.


The rugged and beautiful Coast of Tasmania is a tourist mecca, has a strong agricultural sector, and a developing innovative industrial sector.


Air and sea transport options in the area are both very accessible, so visiting the rest of Tasmania, as well as mainland Australia, is very easy.

Air travel from Devonport to Melbourne is less than one hour and relatively inexpensive.


The Tasmanian housing market is very attractive to both families and investors, as house prices are significantly lower than on mainland Australia.

The population of the area is approximately 116,000 within a total Tasmanian population of around 500,000.

There's a wealth of stories here too, with great museums and significant Aboriginal heritage sites, while the region's creative spirit is showcased in the many art galleries, public artworks, artisan shops and markets found along the coast.
