The Operational Capability Branch (OCB) is the driving force behind Australian Border Force (ABF) technologies. Our Branch also provides support to the ABF in its frontline activities to detect illicit substances from entering Australia and sustainment of technologies such as X-ray machines, Closed Circuit Television (CCTV), Ultra High Frequency (UHF), trace and detection equipment. Our Branch works collaboratively with stakeholders at a strategic and operational level to enable effective border outcomes.

The CCTV and Enforcement Communications (CCTV & EC) Section is responsible for the design, installation, support, maintenance and upgrades to operational Enforcement Communications, including UHF and CCTV systems at airports and seaports, networks in regional centres including the Torres Strait where there is an operational ABF presence. The team undertakes research, reviews, evaluates projects, and collaborates with stakeholders to establish project initiatives. The team is also responsible for deployable tactical satellite communications systems and the delivery of project funded under the Capital Investment Program.

  • Interest in CCTV or ability to quickly acquire expertise in the field
  • Awareness of cyber security principles
  • CCTV qualifications / Video Management System experience
  • Electronics background / qualifications
  • Relevant IT Qualification

Duties and responsibilities

The position holders will be responsible for, but not limited to:

  • Provide expertise in the support and maintenance of the CCTV Video Management System (VMS)
  • Ensure the cyber compliance of cameras and planning the regular maintenance and support required to remain compliant
  • Fleet management of CCTV owned devices including health monitoring and End of Life management
  • Ensure all other appliances within the CCTV network are cyber and functionally compliant
  • Undertake remediation work on the CCTV network identified by Cyber Risk Services regular scanning
  • Supporting the installation and commissioning of CCTV capability on new ABF, sea and airport sites
  • Planning and providing expertise regarding the forward planning for installation of new functionality within the VMS network
  • Ongoing support and maintenance or the VMS network, desktop PCs and other components of the CCTV Network
  • Demonstrate strong technical leadership, analytical and problem-solving skills and work effectively to identify, prioritise, solve and communicate issues in a time-sensitive manner
  • Ensure security implications are addressed
  • Manage competing tasks and customer/stakeholder expectations in relation to technical capability.

Additional information

  • Change management experience (e.g. ITIL)
  • Experience working in a small team
