The Opportunity
The Graduate School of Biomedical Engineering has an opportunity for a Research Assistant - Histology.
In this role you will help achieve research outcomes through the planning, execution, and analysis of preclinical experiments as well as histological processing of tissue samples within two research projects.
On offer is an excellent opportunity to gain exposure with the latest range of techniques in biomedical engineering.The role reports to Associate Professor Jelena Rnjak-Kovacina and Associate Professor Mohit Shivdasani and has no direct reports.
- Level 5, Salary $78,130 to $88,407 per annum + 17% superannuation
- Full time
- Fixedterm contract 12 months
Location: Kensington
- Sydney, Australia
- Onsite role 5 days per week

Skills and Experience
- Bachelor or Master's degree in Science, Neuroscience, Medical Science or closely related research field.
- Experience in working with rodents including rodent monitoring, surgical implantation techniques and implant retrieval.
- Experience in histological techniques, including sectioning and staining of tissues.
- Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to communicate and interact with a diverse range of stakeholders, industry partners, colleagues, and students.
- Demonstrated ability to train others in laboratory skills.
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Highly developed problemsolving skills and ability to use own initiative.
- Ability to find technical solutions to research needs.
- Ability and capacity to direct and monitor the implementation and effectiveness of the safety management system.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines.
- An understanding of and commitment to UNSW's aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
- Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
