We have anopportunity for a Senior Associate/Special Counsel to join ourGeneral Insurance team based in our Perth office.

Our PerthGeneral Insurance team sits within our national General Insurancesection, with around 200 team members nationally. We providegeneral insurance advice to insurers, reinsurers and corporates inboth the Australian and London insurance markets, and we sit on thelegal panels of three of Australia's top four generalinsurers. We also assist the Firm's Commercial DisputesResolution (CDR) team.

The primaryfocus for this role will be advising on defendant personal injuryand general liability matters, including historical abuse claims.These are highly complex, technically challenging and sensitiveclaims. Our team regularly appears in the District Court andSupreme Court of WA.

This is afantastic hands-on role with significant development andprogression opportunities as well as the opportunity to work withinteresting clients, including some of Australia's topinsurers.

Skills andexperience

We would liketo hear from candidates with the following skills andexperience:

  • aminimum of 5 years' post-admission experience advising ondefendant insurance matters, ideally in personal injury andgeneral liability;
  • experience defendinghistorical abuse claims and/or an interest in this area oflaw;
  • we willalso consider candidates from a plaintiff background who areinterested in transitioning to defendant work;
  • experience in theday-to-day management of files, and in running matters throughcourt proceedings;
  • areproactive and able to work autonomously and as part of ateam;
  • excellent technical,analytical and drafting skills with a keen attention todetail;
  • excellent verbal andwritten communication skills; and
  • theability to organise and prioritise effectively.
