The Team


Based in our Tasmanian State Office, you will join other Referendum surge staff in a high-performing team, whose work is integral to the agency's readiness to deliver electoral events ensuring the proper conduct of these events in accordance with the AEC's Electoral Integrity Framework.


The Project Support Unit is responsible for planning, delivery, and evaluation of a range of projects that support state-wide Referendum delivery, governance, and corporate support functions for the state, which includes contract and financial management, and providing other critical support to our divisional network, which is the operational arm of the AEC in Tasmania.

The Project Support Unit works closely with our divisional teams located in Hobart, Launceston and Burnie.

The Opportunity


We are seeking a versatile and energetic person who will be responsible for undertaking work that is moderately complex in nature, under general direction from more senior officers.

This person will be expected to manage their workflow and make decisions within defined legislative parameters relating to their areas of responsibility.

At Referendum time, the role may also be required to take on new responsibilities at short notice.

The role is responsible for:

  • Support planning and assisting in administration of a range of medium to large scale projects involved in delivering elections and referendums for Tasmania particularly in the staffing and training work streams
  • Monitor progress and conduct quality assurance activities to ensure delivery of required project outcomes ensuring agency and stakeholder needs are achieved.
  • Develop and maintain internal and external relationships to assist with the implementation of project outcomes
  • Undertake planning for shortterm tasks, while also contributing to strategic planning for longerterm initiatives
  • Make and communicate decisions within defined boundaries relating to areas of responsibility using AEC training and standard operating procedures provided.
  • May be required to supervise a team to ensure high quality outputs, providing performancebased coaching
