Environmental Manager
who excels in a dynamic setting. The ideal candidate is versatile, handling tasks ranging from administrative to strategic. This Full-Time Contract position spans up to 12 months, stationed in
Brisbane, Australia.

About the Role
This role offers expert Environmental assistance for all business operations across APAC. You will engage in a diverse range of projects as part of a global team.

The main focus is on driving continual improvement in environmental performance, ensuring corporate governance of environmental requirements, and establishing processes to guarantee Hitachi Rail meets its compliance obligations.

The secondary focus is supporting the Project Management Team by offering expert advice, support, and coordination to maintain compliance with Environmental legislation, GBMS, and client needs.

Traveling internationally is a key part of this role, thus a willingness to travel bi-monthly is essential.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as the company's representative on environmental matters in APAC, offering support and advice to colleagues and coordinating with internal and external parties.
  • Develop and execute environmental and sustainability strategies in line with corporate objectives, and assist in the application of APAC Environmental Policy.
  • Maintain ISO14001 accreditation and oversee the improvement of the environmental management system at a local level.
  • Monitor and report on environmental performance and manage assurance audits to ensure compliance with obligations.
  • Develop and monitor indicators for environmental performance, analyzing data to recommend improvement actions.
  • Lead environmental initiatives to minimize impacts and capitalize on sustainable opportunities.
  • Raise employee awareness on environmental management and sustainability topics through training initiatives.
  • Contribute to tender bids requiring environmental management input.
  • Ensure systematic compliance with environmental legislative obligations and contractual requirements.
  • Ensure projects have required environmental management plans in place.
  • Promote and implement Hitachi's culture, ethos, and values.

Required Skills/Knowledge:
- Degree in relevant environmental discipline
- Certified ISO 14001 auditor
- Lead Investigator Qualification
- Proficiency in Australian legal frameworks, State Legislation, and environmental management systems
- Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills
- Ability to build networks and influence people at all levels
- Experience in developing and implementing environmental policies and procedures
- Ability to work collaboratively and achieve set goals
- Understanding of environmental legislative frameworks

Desired Skills/Knowledge:
- Health and safety expertise
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 and ISO 45001
- Internal/Lead auditor training
