About The Role


An opportunity exists for a self-motivated, experienced and capable Engineering Manager to join Iluka's project team in the delivery of lluka's rare earths refinery in Australia that will achieve an independent supply of rare earth oxides, essential to global electrification and decarbonisation.

The Engineering Manager will provide leadership and technical expertise across multi engineering disciplines.

Essential to the role is the effective and efficient planning and management of both internal engineering resources and in particular the EPCM provider to enable them to deliver requisite quality outcomes to consistent standards whilst ensuring that engineering interfaces are well managed and coordinated for overall project success.


Role responsibilities will also include the following:

  • work closely with the Design and Technical Managers to deliver a robust and reliable refinery to time and within budget.
  • partner with the EPCM provider to establish engineering management tools for the project including set up and monitoring of the engineering delivery controls to meet the project objectives.
  • drive engineering effectiveness through quality engineering deliverables, EPCM performance management, safety and sustainability in design and constructability reviews.
  • review engineering designs using applied understanding of design, construction, operation and maintenance requirements and practices.
  • manage development and compliance with a quality engineering management plan for the project.
  • supporting the Senior Project Manager by providing technical input into engineering reviews and contribute to project execution strategies.
  • be a risk champion to ensure risks identified are actively managed throughout project phases; and
  • deliver execution engineering from the FEED phase through to operations handover.
About You

To be successful for this role, you will have:

  • experience, predominantly in design and engineering management and with significant exposure to, site construction, operations and maintenance, rare earth hydrometallurgical refineries or processing plants preferred.
  • degree in Engineering
  • process engineering background preferred, together with experience within a major capital project and/or construction environment, working in the owner's team.
  • previous demonstrated success leading internal and EPCM provider engineering teams with successful delivery of large and complex projects.
  • excellent communication and influencing skills along with sound judgment, decision-making and problem-solving capabilities.
  • ability to establish and maintain effective role relationships with other team members, peers and associates; and
  • the ability to interpret technical information across multi engineering disciplines and provide advice to teams of industry professionals.
