Northern Beaches Hospital provides world-class, Level 5 delineation services for both public and private patients.

The hospital features 486 beds, 50-bed Emergency Department, 20-bed general and cardiothoracic ICU, 14 fully equipped theatres, including hybrid theatres, two cardiac catheter labs and four procedure rooms and a state of the art education and interactive SIM centre.

About the Anaesthetics Department
The Anaesthetics Department at Northern Beaches Hospital currently comprises approximately one hundred VMOs, six trainee registrars who call the 'Beaches' home, two registrars who rotate from a training program and our departmental administration assistant - and we continue to grow


All specialties are catered for within the Interventional Suite and as a registrar you will have access to experience all of these.

The large group of VMOs bring a uniquely varied anaesthetic expertise and as such your teaching opportunities are many and varied.

The Anaesthetics Department has an excellent relationship with the other critical care specialties such as Emergency and Intensive Care and there are many shared educational sessions.

Our department is currently accredited with The Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists and all our registrars have access to the Supervisors of Training who assist with teaching and examination practice, rostering and mentoring.

There is also a dedicated Welfare Officer to help along the way.


The department is ever evolving and as such there is ample opportunity to get involved with new procedures and policies, audits and projects.


Your Role


The Anaesthetics - Unaccredited Trainee will assist in the provision of anaesthetic services in the Interventional Suite, Labour ward and Radiology Department.

You will also participate in Preadmission Clinics, Acute Pain Service and Clinical Emergency Response Service CERS.

You will be supervised by senior medical staff to ensure your responsibilities are commensurate with your clinical experience and according to ANZCA guidelines.

The position is accredited by ANZCA for 52 weeks of training.

Your Capabilities
To be successful in this role you will meet the following Selection Criteria:

  • Hold a medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) and be registrable with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • Demonstrated clinical practice as a registered medical practitioner for a minimum of two years with progress towards career goals in Anaesthetics or Critical Care
  • Demonstrated clinical competency and an ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgment and expertise
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management and evidence of sound working knowledge of legal and ethical obligations governing medical practice
  • Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills, time management and problem solving skills in the clinical setting as part of a multidisciplinary team


If you are successful in the role, you will receive a salary relevant to your clinical experience ranging from $94, 230 to $134, 020 per annum.
