HumeLink West Project

Two leading companies, UGL and CPB Contractors under the CIMIC Group umbrella, have been chosen by Transgrid for the execution of the 130km western segment of the HumeLink high voltage electricity transmission initiative.

HumeLink represents a pioneering 500kV transmission venture linking Wagga Wagga, Maragle, and Bannaby in regional NSW, facilitating a substantial boost in the electricity network capacity across Australia's eastern regions. This project stands as one of the country's most extensive energy infrastructure undertakings, entailing approximately 365kms of proposed new transmission lines and various other infrastructure enhancements.

The HumeLink West project, valued at $1.4 billion, involves the establishment of new 500kV double circuit transmission lines covering 130kms from Wagga Wagga Substation to a new Substation at Gugaa, the Interface Point with HumeLink East near Gundagai, and a fresh substation located at Maragle in the Snowy Mountains for future integration with Snowy 2.0.

Please keep in mind that this position will have an initial base in Sydney, transitioning into an on-site delivery role that necessitates FIFO with additional allowances. Local applicants are strongly encouraged to apply.

About the role

The Environmental Manager assumes responsibility for overseeing leadership & governance, management, implementation, and enhancement of all environmental activities and obligations within the Engineering and Construction realm. Specifically, the Environmental Manager spearheads the environmental and sustainability sector within the business, oversees the UGL Environmental Management System implementation, develops Environment Management Plans (EMP), conducts environmental compliance audits, supports environmental incident reporting and management, and provides relevant education and training. This role offers both technical guidance at a project level and strategic input at a business level.

To excel in this role, the Environmental Manager must emphasize managing, leading, and motivating wider business and project teams; plus crafting, implementing, and monitoring environmental initiatives to yield exceptional outcomes.

Key responsibilities:

  • Carrying out continuous legal and EIMS compliance audits and analysis of all environmental performance, including legislative reviews
  • Ensuring the development of EMS, EMP's, CEMP's, and OEMP's on all projects
  • Compliance with company and legislative requirements
  • Conducting induction, education, and training programs
  • Developing, reporting, and analyzing environmental objectives and targets
  • Handling environmental event reporting and analysis
  • Contributing to client and business development proposals
  • Participating in client or external audits
  • Collaborating with regulators on behalf of UGL when necessary
  • Offering expert environmental advice to divisional management, projects, and sites
  • Conducting consistent reviews and investigations (if needed) of environmental impacts, hazards, and complaints
  • Engaging in companywide environmental and sustainability meetings and strategy sessions

Qualifications/Experience and Skills:

  • Providing leadership, direction, supervision, and inspirational management to all team members (direct & indirect)
  • Demonstrating relevant experience with a proven ability to lead, manage, and implement enhanced environmental and operational sustainability outcomes
  • Conducting Performance Development sessions with all direct reports
  • Holding a Degree or Postgraduate qualifications in environmental management or environmental science, engineering, or equivalent field
  • Possessing a minimum of 5 years' experience in Environment Management within a comparable industry
  • Completing Certificate IV in Training & Assessment (TAE) or equivalent qualification
  • Attaining an Internal HSSE Auditing Qualification (RABQSA, JAS-ANZ, or equivalent)
  • Securing a Root Cause Investigation Qualification: Incident Cause Analysis Method (ICAM)
