Eden Ritchie is seeking a Policy Officer who will be part of a small team of policy professionals responsible for the ongoing stewardship and management of the Queensland Procurement Strategy and the Queensland Procurement Policy, along with related whole-of-government guidance, tools and templates.

As the Policy Officer, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Provide proactive advice to budget sector agencies, government-owned-corporations and special purpose vehicles on procurement policies, strategies, and guidelines.
  • Provide research and analytical support on complex policy issues affecting wholeofGovernment procurement, including environmental scanning, jurisdictional comparisons and data collection, leveraging a variety of sources across the procurement sector.
  • Prepare timely and well researched high level ministerial and executive correspondence, high level policy documents, briefs, Cabinet submissions, project documentation and other written materials supporting the complex functions of Procurement Policy.
  • Assist in the review of guidelines, tools and templates including to ensure they are contemporary and reflective of best practice, and practically implement the government's objectives, targets and commitments for procurement.
  • Providing input into and/or reviewing, Cabinet submissions and strategy and policy proposals, to ensure procurementrelated issues and opportunities are identified and addressed.
  • Participate in preparing for internal, interdepartmental or other meetings involving a wide range of industry stakeholders, and in conjunction with senior officers, attend and assist with minutetaking and followup actions as required.
  • Support delivery of training programs, stakeholder engagement and project management activities including development of project plans, artefacts and project schedules.

Technical/operational expertise:

  • Proven experience in contributing to the development, implementation and review of policies, strategies, programs and interpreting legislation to ensure they are contemporary and reflective of best practice.
  • Demonstrated experience in development of highlevel policy documents, project management documents, guidance material, briefs and executive correspondence.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing potentially competing tasks and activities of high complexity and priority in a fast pace environment.
  • Highly developed verbal and written communication capability that results in the production of clear, concise and accurate advice targeted to internal and external stakeholders.


While there are no mandatory qualifications for this role, knowledge of contemporary public sector issues; and a sound knowledge and understanding of procurement, or the demonstrated capacity to rapidly achieve this knowledge and understanding, is highly desirable.
