When I met the CEO to take this brief her message was unequivocal and consistent. "David, I need the type of CFO who can do more than the numbers I really need a right hand person who can quickly come to grips with our business and its services and complex range of stakeholders. Sure, they'll be responsible for the numbers, analysis and efficiencies needed to underpin business decision making and funding applications. I need so much more though. It's about exploring new ways of generating revenues that we can use to expand our service offerings and support more of our stakeholders."

Let me tell you more about the role. Firstly, you'll be supported by a very efficient and effective Finance Manager and his team which does a great job on the numbers. That's going to create time and opportunity to work with direct reports and teams across ICT, Records Management, Maintenance and Payroll. There the focus will be on ensuring initiatives and efficiencies are in place to promote contemporary and effective support to the organisation as it shape-shifts in a constantly changing environment with complex compliance and funding demands.

More? Well, the CFO is going to bring a mix of proven leadership (that ability to inspire others and the way in which they think, respond and act) and commercial/business creativity. That's around what new avenues might exist to build revenue streams, what they might look like, how they can be established, and even who needs to be influenced. It's about tapping into the knowledge and experience of teams and maybe even other organisations. It's using networks and compiling meaningful data and projections that will guide the Executive and a very talented and experienced Board in decision making.

And you? Certainly a tertiary qualified CPA/CA, you're already working at this level, a proven and inspiring leader whose ideas, values and style all come together to deliver real results. You know it's about delivering through people and your ability to develop talent and teamwork sets you apart. Ideally your background is in the NFP, Health or Human Services areas where regulatory and funding parameters are tight. Truly, though, you'll need well developed commercial skills, so if your background is business and you're genuinely motivated to contribute within an NFP, we do want to hear from you.

Regardless of background, you must be a highly strategic thinker who also has well developed communication skills that have underpinned your ability to engage effectively at all levels, both internally and externally. You have proven experience in finance project management and financial control. You stand apart from your peers when it comes to continuous improvement and driving business transformation. You're at home managing ICT as a function that drives initiatives around business and process efficiencies. To you, the CFO role is there to make a real difference

I'm guessing you'd like to know more about the WIIFM factor? OK, you'll be joining a strategically and well led organisation, very long established and incredibly successful in delivering vital services across a large geography extending well beyond Ballarat. You'll be taking on a high profile role and working with stakeholders across the region as well as in Melbourne and Canberra. We do want you to be looking to relocate and become part of the team and the community. It's not a hybrid role because of the influence needed. We will certainly consider you if you are within an hour's commute.
