Software Engineer: $130-150K AUD + Super + share options, Sydney. You must be authorised to work in Australia.

HEO is the world's first commercial in-orbit satellite inspection company. We help intelligence, defence, government and commercial organisations to visually monitor their spacecraft and other space objects they care about. We are based in Sydney, Australia with subsidiaries in London, UK and Washington DC, USA. We are looking for a software engineer to join our Sydney team. Reporting to the CTO, you will be playing a key role in maintaining, improving and adding new features to our cloud services which act as the foundation for HEO's web app and API.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Optimise and improve algorithms deployed on HEO software products
  • Keep HEO's APIs up-to-date
  • Work closely with HEO's research and development team, DevOps team and product development team to maintain and deploy new features on the cloud with automation and scalability in mind
  • Deploying new features on existing software services
  • Automate manual processes
  • Work closely with HEO's engineering team to ideate new features and prioritise them.
  • Develop code in accordance with HEO's cyber security, code quality and documentation standards

Desired educational qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering or electronics engineering.
  • Majoring in Physics or mathematics alongside one of the above degrees is considered a plus

Experience and Skills:

  • 5 years of relevant experience. Experience in developing solutions in the space industry is considered a plus.
  • In-depth knowledge of Python and C or C++
  • In depth knowledge of AWS services - especially EC2, ECS, ECR, and Lambdas
  • Strong understanding of relational databases (you won't be designing databases, but handling data with complex relationships)
  • Strong communication and documentation skills
  • A good understanding of concepts such as Git, REST API, SQL and CI/CD
