About the project
***The Djilang Alliance, comprising McConnell Dowell, Downer, Arup and WSP Australia, has been selected to deliver the South Geelong to Waurn Ponds Duplication project.

  • The South Geelong to Waurn Ponds Duplication is part of the Australian and Victorian governments' more than $1 billion investment in the staged upgrade of the Geelong Line and a critical step in delivering more frequent and reliable services.
  • With a completion date targeted for 2024, the project will include:
  • Duplicating around eight kilometres of track between South Geelong and Waurn Ponds
  • Rebuilding South Geelong and Marshall stations featuring new station buildings and forecourts, second platforms and accessible pedestrian overpasses
  • Removal of the level crossings at Fyans Street and Surf Coast Highway and replaced with elevated rail bridges.
  • Signalling upgrades between South Geelong and Waurn Ponds
  • More than five kilometres of new shared user paths linking to existing trails and paths and creating a continuous connection between South Geelong and Waurn Ponds.

About your opportunity

Communications and Stakeholder Engagement Advisor to be engaged by McConnell Dowell Constructors Aust. Pty Ltd.

  • Reporting to the Communications and Stakeholder Engagement Manager, you will play an integral role in supporting the implementation of outstanding community and stakeholder engagement for the Alliance.
  • Responsibilities include:
  • Plan and deliver community and stakeholder engagement activities (e.g. information sessions, workshops, background research, event management, reports and summaries).
  • Lead the development of public information about the project that is clear, timely and accessible for the community and project stakeholders.
  • Working with teams to research, understand and assess social risk, as well as look for solutions to make projects better for communities and drive sustainable solutions.
  • Work with the project consultation database to ensure that all interactions with community, key stakeholders and the general public are logged accurately.
  • Support the Communications and Stakeholder Engagement team through mentoring junior staff members and developing strong working relationships across the project.

What we're looking for

  • Tertiary qualifications in media/communications/marketing or equivalent
  • Approximately 4 years professional experience in community relations, communications or journalism in a relevant similar role
  • Experience coordinating tasks such as design, video, collateral and events
  • Strong written and verbal communicator
  • Energetic, resilient, flexible with a cando attitude
  • Personal values aligned to McConnell Dowell's values of safety and care, honesty and integrity, customer focus, working together, and performance excellence
  • Valid Australian working rights
