About the Unit
The Yara Pilbara Fertilisers' plant stands out as one of the biggest ammonia production facilities globally. Taking the ammonia process further downstream, the Yara Pilbara Nitrates Technical Ammonium Nitrate (TAN) plant has been developed through a partnership with Orica. Collaborating with ENGIE, Yara Pilbara is set to construct a renewable hydrogen plant to yield renewable ammonia.

We are constantly seeking ambitious and curious-minded colleagues willing to have an impact, while enjoying life in the nearby coastal city of Karratha, Western Australia. Karratha, a pivotal community in the region renowned for its resource-centric focus and laid-back, welcoming ambiance. All positions based in Karratha are offered on a residential basis, with housing, relocation support, and location allowance provided.
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Shift Superintendent, the Process Operator is tasked with monitoring and operating the Utilities, Nitric Acid, Ammonium Nitrate, and Bulk Handling areas. This involves reporting any hazards or risks promptly and securely after undergoing the necessary competency-based training and assessments. These duties pertain to both field operation and central control room operations. The Process Operator might have opportunities in various plant operation areas based on YPN operation's requirements and successful assessments in those areas. The role follows a shift schedule of 2 days, 2 nights, and 4 days off.
The responsibilities and requirements of the Process Operator role include:
- Monitoring and operating plant systems under different plant conditions and in various sections of the YPN site;
- Performing necessary operational adjustments in line with company policies to maintain safety, productivity, and reliability;
- Executing plant and equipment start-up and shutdown procedures;
- Reporting any faults or deviations and initiating notifications for plant maintenance work;
- Committing to work safely, communicating safety hazards clearly;
- Preparing plant equipment for maintenance and ensuring safe and efficient return to service;
- Maintaining accurate records for all plant areas;
- Demonstrating knowledge of safety procedures;
- Participating in continuous improvement initiatives;
- Complying with operational routines;
- Responding to plant emergencies;
- Following all directives from Yara.
Profile
Requirements for the Process Operator role:
- Commitment to safe working practices aligned with Yara's vision;
- A Process Plant Operator Certificate III or equivalent;
- Minimum of 5 years in the Chemical/petrochemical industry, preferable in a Nitric Acid or Ammonium Nitrate Plant setting;
- Teamwork skills;
- Proficiency in Microsoft modules;
- Proficient in English.
