Situated in Silverwater, NSW, the ideal candidate will bring forth their technical skills and expertise to support the back office financial processes and deliverables. With a proven track record and a completed CPA, they will be responsible for ensuring the accurate delivery of financial accounting and reporting obligations, adhering meticulously to relevant accounting standards. Additionally, they will manage their work and stakeholder relationships with a strong focus on our business values, especially service focus.

This is a unique opportunity to join the Equans Finance Team as a stand-alone Financial Accountant, receiving full support by your Finance Business Partner colleagues. The successful candidate will also have exposure to and be working with the Chief Financial Officer on a daily basis.

Much of this role will see the successful candidate involved in a range of accounting tasks, taking a hands-on approach to responding to audit inquiries, liaising with our head office in Paris, preparation and running reports, reconciling balance sheet accounts, investigating reporting variances, posting journals for month end, and following up on information requested from the business or auditors.

What you will be doing

  • Participating and contributing to financial accounting requirements and reporting projects
  • Supporting the Finance team to meet all obligations from statutory, internal, and external reporting standpoint.
  • Assisting the external audit process. This is achieved through provision of information, resolving queries, managing any investigations where necessary, chasing information from the business, and assisting with any other queries arising from the audit process.
  • Assisting in the preparation of statutory financial statements which are compliant with relevant accounting standards (AIFRS NZ IFRS) and legislation instruments for e.g., the Australian Corporations Act, NZ Companies Act.
  • Assisting in the consolidation of the trial balance into our head office reporting tool
  • Delivering external and internal group reporting obligations in a timely manner and in accordance with applicable accounting and reporting requirements. These may include balance sheet, income, and cash flows statements, along with consolidation entries.
  • Managing the preparation and lodgement of direct tax requirements with our external accounting firm, following up on queries that may arise.
  • Recognising and enhancing processes, procedures, and systems with the view to improve the quality, effectiveness, and efficiency of reporting.
  • Ensuring compliance with technical accounting and regulatory requirements by the Equans Group.

What you need

  • 3 years' experience in a similar role.
  • Excellent knowledge of the operation of Microsoft Excel. Required skills include pivot tables, VLOOKUP and XLOOKUP. Additional skills in data validation, auditing formulas and HLOOKUP are well regarded but not compulsory.
  • A growth mindset and willingness to expand your own knowledge.
  • A desire to contribute to a positive workplace culture and support your team.

Your Qualifications

  • CPA and tertiary qualifications in finance or accounting.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain a variety of stakeholder relationships, both internal and external.
