Your new team

Forming part of the Orygen Specialist Program (OSP), a program of The Royal Melbourne Hospital, the Custodial Forensic Youth Mental Health Service (FYMHS) team provides specialist youth mental health care in custodial settings (Parkville and Cherry Creek sites) to young people and their families/carers.

Custodial FYMHS is in an exciting period of significant growth as a result of the Royal Commission and evolution of Victorian Mental Health Services. Our specialist multidisciplinary team provide enhanced services to young people in custody, with a focus on recovery-oriented care.

Your new role

Join us in a newly created specialist role supporting with the expansion of the specialist team within Custodial FYMHS. We are excited to welcome an enthusiastic, passionate and experienced Music Therapist to play a crucial role in enhancing the care and assistance provided to young people in custody, focusing on developing relationships that foster hope and optimism. Feel supported as you work amongst a passionate, inclusive and supportive multidisciplinary team and have access to regular professional development (internal & external) and supervision.

In this role, you will:

Provide a service that facilitates music as a therapeutic tool that meets the needs of young people in custody and Custodial FYMHS. Have the opportunity to participate in music therapy directed OSP-wide projects. Demonstrate advanced understanding of key methodologies that are evidence-based, including the provision of therapeutic live music, guided original song writing, guided relaxation, music skill building and studio therapy, while exploring associated mental health concepts. Based across Parkville & Cherry Creek Youth Justice Precincts. As such, travel to the workplace destination can be included within the working hours.

About You:

Relevant Australian Music Therapy Association registration and qualifications (see position description for details) Comprehensive experience in music therapy within the mental health field, ideally including young people experiencing mental health challenges. Knowledge of the youth justice and/or criminal justice system and other relevant settings is desirable.
