About the Department
Surgical Services
The Surgical Services Program delivers the majority of surgical services across all Alfred Health sites.
The program includes 5 General surgical units - Breast, Endocrine and General Surgery (BES), Colorectal and General Surgery (CRS), Oesophagogastric, Bariatric and General Surgery (OGB), Hepatopancreatic biliary and General Surgery (HPB), and the Acute General Surgery Unit (AGSU) - specialty surgical units, anaesthesia and perioperative medicine, operating suite service, surgical inpatient wards, a medical day unit, day of surgery admissions, day surgery and endoscopy service.
The program also oversees the elective surgery waiting list.About the Role
Applications are invited for the position of Specialist in Breast, Endocrine, and General Surgery (Fractional) at Alfred Health.
The Alfred Hospital Breast, Endocrine and General surgery unit(BES) is seeking to appoint an additional surgeon with a specialty interest in Breast Surgery to join the current team on a sessional basis.
Our BES unit of 7 surgeons currently has 3 VMO surgeons subspecialising in Breast Surgery, managing significant numbers of new Breast Cancer Cases annually - a volume which continues to increase.
We have a close working relationship with our Plastic Surgical colleagues and have a high rate of oncoplastic resections and immediate reconstructions.
We have an active MDT and all related medical and allied health services available on site.Qualifications and Skills Required
- Appointees must be legally qualified medical practitioners, registered or registrable with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) without conditions, undertakings or reprimands that could impact on their clinical practice.
- Fellowship of RACS
- Full membership (or eligibility) of Breast Surgeons Australia and New Zealand
- Demonstrable relevant knowledge and experience in Breast and General Surgery.
- Meets Alfred Health requirements for credentialing and scope of practice in Breast Endocrine and General Surgery
- Ability to participate in the Acute General Surgery Unit
- Training in oncoplastic breast surgery is highly desirable
- Experience in teaching and an involvement in breast research are highly desirable.
- Outstanding communication skills, including welldeveloped conflict resolution skills
- Ability to liaise well with other staff at all levels
- Demonstrated flexibility in problem solving and the capability to develop and sustain highly collaborative relationships with others/ other teams.
