About the College

Set in a stunning 136-acre property in the Yarra Valley (60 kilometers from the Melbourne CBD), Worawa Aboriginal College is a boarding school catering to Aboriginal girls during their secondary education years. As an Aboriginal initiative, Worawa stands as an Independent school, guided and owned by Aboriginal individuals, operating under the ethos of 'Walking Together to Make a Difference'.

An all-encompassing boarding school, Worawa was established to address the needs of Aboriginal teenagers and the challenges they face in traditional educational settings. The student body at Worawa represents the diverse Aboriginal communities nationwide. The college offers a comprehensive education grounded in an integrated Education, Culture, and Wellbeing framework.

The Role

A full-time position reporting to the Executive Director and Principal, the Finance Manager will oversee the overall financial management of the College. This role includes supervision of a direct report responsible for accounts payable, receivable, and payroll.

The Finance Manager is a key member of the administrative team and contributes to the financial strategic planning of the College. Responsibilities encompass reconciliations, budgeting, financial reporting, asset management, funding applications, grant submissions, and negotiating terms with suppliers.

The ideal candidate should have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Management, or Commerce
  • Extensive experience in accounting or relevant fields
  • Proficiency in financial and management accounting fundamentals, along with asset management principles
  • Familiarity with various software systems including Xero, Employment Hero Payroll and HR, Microsoft Office, and other accounting tools
  • Proven leadership experience, strategic thinking abilities, and effective action planning skills
  • Strong administrative and reporting capabilities with a focus on meeting deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal, stakeholder management, and communication skills
  • Outstanding organizational and planning skills with a knack for leading by example and efficient delegation
  • Capability to work collaboratively with Aboriginal colleagues, fostering functional relationships with Worawa staff
  • Valid Working with Children Check and Police Check
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Professional accounting or finance certification like CPA or ICA desirable
  • Prior operational experience in a school or not-for-profit organization highly beneficial
  • Indigenous Cultural Awareness Training
  • Experience in collaborating with the Aboriginal community and a deep understanding of Aboriginal cultures and related challenges
