About the Role:
As Teacher Aide, as well as the responsibilities listed within the Position Description you will have responsibility for the following:
- Oversee the QATSIF scholarship processes including supporting students to apply, ongoing monitoring of student performance and attendance, monitoring and supporting the acquittal process for scholarship moneys, coordinating students to attend celebrations and graduations through the QATSIF program.
- Being an active member of the Student Support Team by contributing to the identification and implementation of targeted programs for students.
- Develop strong and supportive links with parents and other stakeholders, specifically around student needs, regarding support at school and to access extracurricular activities and tutoring.
- Use the Aboriginal Calendar of Significant Events to promote understanding, and encourage student involvement in these. This includes publicising and raising awareness of these events through multiple school forums, supporting students to present on assemblies and developing confidence in staff to discuss these with students.
About You:
The successful applicant should be able to demonstrate:
- A knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures and spiritualities.
- An ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, their families and school staff to improve educational outcomes through targeted and direct academic support.
In addition, you will have excellent time management skills, well developed interpersonal skills and a high proficiency of computer skills.
Mandatory requirements:
- In accordance with the Working with Children (Risk Management and Screening) Act 2000 a person is prohibited from working in regulated childrelated employment unless the person holds a current Working with Children Check clearance (blue card) issued by Blue Card Services.
- For this position, it is a genuine occupational requirement that it be filled by an Aboriginal person or a Torres Strait Islander person as set out in Section 7 of the Anti Discrimination Act 1991 for the purposes contained in Section 25 of that Act.
Requesting proof of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage from applicants helps to make sure that this intention is honoured.
