What you'll be doing:

• Respond to general correspondence within required timeframes and attend to phone and counter enquiries as directed by the Coordinator Growth Area Planning.
• Participate in departmental liaison with planning proponents and other levels of government under supervision from the Coordinator Growth Are Planning and other strategic planning colleagues.
• Contribute to the preparation of internal reports on planning matters and policies as initiated by Council, the State Government, other agencies, and the community.
• Assist colleagues in preparing various strategic planning policies, strategies and structure plans produced by City Strategy Department.
• Undertake planning research and literature reviews, special projects, and contributions to planning studies with guidance from the Coordinator Growth Area Planning.

The skills and experience you'll bring to the role:

• A developing knowledge of Victorian planning legislation, principles and processes including their relationship to local government and the Hume context. In addition, a breadth of understanding of the diverse interplaying economic, social, and environmental factors that affect planning processes, policies, and decisions.
• Demonstrated ability to solve problems, carry out effective research and investigate the consequences of any planning proposal within a strategic framework, with the support of colleagues.
• A working knowledge of Microsoft Office software is required, with skills in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) highly desirable.

Required Certifications & Qualifications:

• Currently undertaking a bachelor's degree or post graduate study in urban and regional planning, urban design, landscape architecture or a related discipline.
• Current driver's license.
