About the team

BDO's Consulting team provides professional client services in strategy, sustainability, transformation, technology, and people advisory.

You'll work with diverse clients who value our expertise and support, as well as build and tailor our approaches to help our clients solve their problems. You will collaborate with our delivery teams and experts to deliver successfully for our clients.

Engagements may include (and are not limited to) leading integrated service delivery across whole-of-firm advisory and assurance services e.g.

  • ESG and Sustainability Strategy, Roadmap Design, Planning and Reporting
  • Decarbonisation & Net Zero Strategy
  • Organisational transformation and change
  • Organisational Performance Improvement

Current opportunity

We are enjoying a time of growth in our Sydney teams and as a result we now have an opportunity for an experienced Senior Sustainability and ESG professional to lead and execute client facing projects. This will include the development of client proposals and market facing collateral as well as new services and enhancement of BDO's tools, processes, and practices.

This is a client-facing consulting role which requires the application of sustainability and ESG strategy, transformation and related service delivery experience that will include coordination of other BDO service lines e.g., Corporate Finance, Audit.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Execute advisory services, including Sustainability and ESG strategy, materiality, roadmap development, transformation etc.
  • Develop client strategies and execute bespoke solutions to address client ESG opportunities and challenges.
  • Liaise with client senior management and C-Suite and Boards to ensure objectives are met and risks are mitigated.
  • Understand and apply the firm's quality and professional delivery standards required to deliver assurance services.
  • Develop externally facing material about the ESG practice (e.g. articles, presentations) and contribute to capability building internally through the development of tools and training where there is capacity
  • Develop and mentor junior team members as they equip themselves to become trusted advisors of the future.
  • Responsible for maintaining client relationships as required, including involvement in the initial planning meeting, maintaining proper regular contact and identifying issues to be resolved and actions required.
  • Management of workflow and delegation of work to appropriate staff, ensuring jobs are completed efficiently, meet technical standards and are within deadlines and budgets.
  • Developing external networks and market presence
  • Industry insight development

What you'll need to succeed

This role will suit candidates that have an extensive consulting background with experience growing a successful business, aligning leaders to a clear vision, setting strategy, planning, designing and implementing programs & projects and delivering change.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience required:

  • Deep experience and knowledge of Sustainability and ESG, including executing solutions for clients in response to ESG challenges.
  • Strong generalist consulting experience across multiple sectors and engagement types gained within leading professional services firm, with track record of delivery.
  • Demonstrable experience working with senior and C-Suite stakeholders across a broad range of clients and industries.
  • Business development, bids and complex proposal management experience.
  • Experience in sizing engagements including scoping the skills & experience required, team structure and supporting pricing framework for delivery.
  • Ability to form strong working relationships with market-leading clients to support their ESG aspirations.
  • Relevant tertiary qualification/s in a related discipline.
  • Knowledge and practical experience in consulting and project management in relation to transformation, strategy, and business operations.
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative and innovative culture focused on developing strategic solutions that create long term value for clients.
