About the role

  • Actively participate in the clinical coding quality assurance program including individual, departmental and targeted coding audits, and provision of audit feedback and education to relevant staff, to ensure a high standard of coding accuracy, consistency and timeliness.
  • Contribute to and expand the coder clinician liaison program to improve the quality of clinical documentation for accurate and optimal assignment of DRGs within an ABF environment.
About you

  • Expert ability in the classification of diseases and procedures using ICD10AM/ACHI/ACS across a broad range of specialities and expert knowledge of Activity Based Funding and the principles of Diagnosis Related Group (DRG) assignment
  • Demonstrated extensive experience in clinical coding and clinical coding audit at tertiary/quaternary level complexity and with high level of accuracy.
  • Proven experience in development and performance of coding quality improvement activities suitable to an Activity Based Funding environment including coder audits, DRG targeted audits, servicewide coding audits, Performance Indicators for Coding Quality review.
  • High level experience in direct communication and professional liaison with clinicians regarding the quality of clinical documentation required for accurate DRG assignment.
  • Demonstrated ability to use or quickly acquire the skills to utilise relevant software including HBCIS, 3M Codefinder, word processing, spreadsheets and other relevant software and programs including Auditing programs, as required.
  • Highlevel oral and written communication skills to enable effective interaction in individual and group situations with the ability to coordinate and motivate a team and to communicate with staff at all levels.
  • Demonstrated experience in training of staff and the facilitation of coding education programs.
  • Sound ability to provide solutions to specific problems in order to meet organisational or task needs and ability to identify opportunities for improvement and resolve problems using an innovative approach.
  • Commitment to continuous quality improvement and expertise and experience in the development and implementation of quality management activities in relation to coded data.
