Population Health monitors health threats and diseases, responds to environmental and communicable disease threats, and promotes policies, environments, and behaviours that improve health.


You will work alongside dynamic Registered Nurses, Public Health Physicians, Aboriginal Health Workers, Statisticians, Project Officers and Information Resource Specialists.


About the job:

  • This position also has a key role in providing epidemiological support to zoonotic disease and One Health activities in Hunter New England.
  • This role includes surveillance, outbreak investigation, and research into foodborne and other enteric diseases. This position is part of OzFoodNet, which is an Australian Commonwealth Government funded health network, aimed at enhancing the surveillance of foodborne diseases in Australia.

Requirements:

  • Relevant postgraduate tertiary qualification in epidemiology (Masters or Doctoral level) and extensive relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise and experience in conducting foodborne and zoonotic disease outbreak investigations using both casecontrol and cohort methodologies.
  • An understanding of food safety principles, hazard control and the epidemiology of foodborne diseases.
  • Competency in statistical analysis, interpretation and evaluation of communicable diseases data. Proficient use of statistical packages such as Epiinfo, R, SAS, STATA or SPSS.
  • Demonstrated experience in disease control programs and public health surveillance, including experience working in clinical settings, with Indigenous communities or other vulnerable groups.
  • Welldeveloped interpersonal, collaborative and consultative skills including the ability to negotiate and liaise with people at all levels and from a range of backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated high level project management skills with welldeveloped time management and work prioritisation skills.
  • Commitment to Indigenous health and understanding of the issues that impact on remote service delivery.
