Position Details

Mater Dei College has the opportunity for a part-time, temporary English/HASS Teacher to become an integral part of the College's Teaching Department, commencing Semester 2,15th July 2024.

The position will be until 31st December 2024.

This position will be split between English and Humanities, however, there is likely to be a higher load of English classes.

The English/HASS Teacher will be responsible for a variety of tasks within the specified Learning Areas that are inclusive of, but not limited to:

• Implementing effective teaching strategies to engage and challenge students of varying abilities to achieve specific learning outcomes.

• Fostering a stimulating, encouraging and inclusive classroom environment designed to support student growth.

• Programming for classes within the Learning Areas and thoroughly planning for each lesson.

• Assessing the performance of students in accordance with College procedures and where required, maintaining contact with parents regarding the performance and wellbeing of students.

• Meeting the deadlines set by the Head of Learning Area and College Executive.

Selection Criteria

The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate a high level of professionalism whilst supporting the Catholic ethos.

The successful applicant will have the ability to teach English and HASS across all year levels, including English courses for Year 11 and 12.

The successful applicant will also hold a tertiary qualification for Secondary Education, preferably in English or Humanities and Social Sciences. Demonstrated experience within these Learning Areas will be viewed favourably.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Education, preferably in English or Humanities and Social Sciences.

• Graduate Diploma in Education (Secondary) or equivalent.

Terms of Employment

• Hold a current registration with the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia.

• Hold a current Working with Children Check (WWC).

• Hold, or be working towards completion of, Accreditation to Teach in a Catholic School, Accreditation to Teach Religious Education or Accreditation for Leadership in Catholic Schools.

High Desirable

• Teaching experience in English and/or HASS.

• Experience working with high school students.

• Excellent communication, leadership and interpersonal skills.

• Proven ability to work collaboratively with students, parents and external partners.
