About the Team


Operating under limited direction, this role plays a key role in ensuring the Department of Transport and Planning delivers critical road projects.

The role leads various activities to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget and achieve strict quality and safety standards.

Reporting to the Project Manager, the Project Leader is responsible for providing expertise for project planning, design, procurement, contract development and execution of works, surveillance; complex stakeholder engagement; coupled with effective financial management.

Project Lead role

The Project Leader contributes to developing and delivering project activities, supporting the strategic direction of the Department and building effective stakeholder relationships.

To succeed, the incumbent must drive collaborative relationships with municipalities, utility agencies, contractors and other Victorian State Government Departments.

The role is required to work closely with project teams to monitor progress and ensure successful delivery against the four elements of successful project management: cost, time, quality and stakeholder management.

About You
We are seeking an experienced professional who displays capability and knowledge in the skills included, but are not limited, to the following:

Project Delivery (Applied) Defines tasks to be delivered to meet agreed outcomes; Coordinates and guides others in the execution of work activities; Monitors progress of tasks against plans and takes corrective action when required.

Stakeholder Management (Applied) Takes steps to add value for the client or stakeholder; Links people with other areas as appropriate; Monitor's client and stakeholder satisfaction; Constructively deals with stakeholder issues

Business & Commercial (Applied) Understands associated costs of operations and seek efficient ways of operating.

Where external vendors are involved, ensure good understanding on engagement terms and hold parties involved accountable in delivering against agreement.


Interpersonal Skills (Applied) Sees things from another's point of view & confirms understanding; Understand motivations, needs and wants of stakeholders and their impact on service delivery; Tailor communications according to audience and/or audience preference.


Strategic Planning (Applied) Ensures that day to day planning and work processes are in line with team/organisation strategy; Identifies and develops own and team objectives linking strategies to actions to achieve these; Guides others in strategic planning process.

Qualifications:

  • A relevant tertiary degree in engineering, project management or at significant and equivalent experience.
  • Experience at managing infrastructure projects.
