The opportunity:

The Senior Analyst
will work on two key aspects of CRU's portfolio - driving increased value from our costs and emissions data across Steel's Analysis portfolio, and delivering prices and analysis of global steel trade
:


The Analyst will be a key driver of enabling greater value from Steel's market leading costs and emissions data and analysis.

They will do this by further integrating our costs, emissions and markets work across the steel analysis portfolio, working both internal and with our customers demonstrating the value of CRU's steel costs and emissions data and analysis.

Costs and emissions are key drivers of decarbonisation in the steel industry.

The Analyst will work to ensure the integration of this is as complete as it can be across our portfolio of services, embedding costs and emissions data throughout our market teams analysis and ensuring our costs data meets the twin challenges of high quality internal analysis and customer decision making.


Additionally, the Analyst will be editor for a key finished steel Monitor service (Global Steel Trade Service), indirectly lead a team to deliver high quality prices and analysis on global steel trade, building a strong network with the market and our customers.

Costs are already a key influencer of trade flows, while emissions will increasingly also be so. The Analyst will draw value from understanding both deeply.


Analysts are key in supporting CRU's sales and marketing activities, with colleagues to help customers better understand the value of our analysis and data.

Knowledge, data analysis and modelling

  • Ownership of analysis and prices for key steel trading markets.
  • Deep understanding of how steel trade functions and the decisions market participants need greater clarity.
  • Maintain key datasets for areas of specialisation to a high standard, ensuring these are integrated with wider supply chain data.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the value derived from costs and emissions data in market analysis and customer decision making.
Editor of services

  • Managing production schedules for services to delivery to tight deadlines.
  • Lead a team of analysts to deliver cohesive and comprehensive analysis of iron ore markets that is integrated with our wider view of the steel industry.
Communication

  • Create and communicate data driven analysis of market developments and issues that are compelling, logical and cohesive.
  • Write timely Insights covering developments in the steel market
Customer engagement and market awareness

  • Develop and maintain relationships with key customers and market participants in area of specialisation and across the wider steel value chain.
  • Respond to client and internal requests for data and opinions on area of market expertise.
  • Provide support to our sales and marketing colleagues through activities with customers and potential customers.

About you

  • Masters degree in relevant fields, including economics, finance, engineering, physical sciences or geology.
  • Experience of managing and leading a team or people (directly or indirectly), preferably within an analysis environment.
  • Strong quantitative background and a creative thinker based on a robust approach to data/modelling.
  • Ideally, exposure to decision making needs at various levels in an organisation.
