Today the Central Coast is one of the fastest growing regions in NSW, with the third largest Local Government Area (LGA) in NSW and the 6th Largest LGA in Australia.

This autonomous position plays a key role in reducing illegal dumping incidents across the Central Coast LGA.

The role offers flexibility in how you carry out your diverse work load, which could involve anything from being out in the community assessing and investigating dumping incidents, to interpreting legislation, conducting investigations and preparing documents for court.


The role is supported by a broader team within Council including rangers and environmental protection officers and interacts regularly with other Local Councils in the Hunter and Sydney regions, as well as a range of other government agencies.


Key activities include

  • Investigate incidents of illegal dumping and illegal landfilling within the Local Government area
  • Conduct verbal, written and electronic interviews of witnesses and persons of interest
  • Prepare correspondence, reports, notices, infringements, notices and other Statutory Instruments under relevant legislation, as well as necessary documents for court proceedings.

_About You_

  • You ideally hold a Certificate IV qualification in Local Government (Regulatory Services), or you have extensive experience in a similar law enforcement role
  • You bring sound investigation skills and experience in interviewing offenders and preparing relevant documents for court
  • You are experienced in interpreting legislation, and ideally have sound knowledge of the Protection of the Environment Operations Act 199
  • Your ability to negotiate and manage conflict effectively is a key strength
  • You enjoy working autonomously
  • Having a work life balance is important to you

This role provides a commencing salary range of between $1,276 to $1,531 per week dependent on skills and experience + 10.5% superannuation.

A vehicle is provided for official duties and private use leaseback is available in accordance with Council's Vehicle Policy.

A 9 day fortnight work-cycle currently applies to this role,
with flexible/hybrid working arrangements available.
