As an Associate Research Fellow you will:

The Associate Research Fellow will engage collaboratively to conduct high-quality research, scholarship and creative activities generating high impact outputs, with mentorship from leaders within the research team.

They will specifically work with Professor Stephane Shepherd on the research project, "Addressing the needs of justice-involved African-Australian and Pasifika young people and their families" funded by the Department of Justice and Community Safety. The project aims to identify key factors leading to justice-involvement and peer group affiliation for Pasifika young people, and to cultivate culturally responsive interventions and programs co-designed to prevent and reduce (further) justice system contact and peer-affiliated group involvement.

In a typical week you will:

  • Conduct high-quality research, scholarship and creative activities generating high impact outputs, with mentorship
  • Engage collaboratively to participate in novel and high-quality research or creative activities
  • Communicate outputs, including as part of team
  • Ensure impact of academic activity on the field and the community
  • Support and may lead applications for funding for research and creative activities
  • Begin building body of work and reputation and recognition for quality, excellence and impact

To be successful, you'll have:

  • PhD in a relevant discipline and/or other relevant qualifications and experience
  • Emerging research and scholarship through publications, and/or exhibitions as appropriate to the discipline
  • Ability to contribute to communities through research
  • Capacity to contribute to teaching, research and administration
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a proven ability to establish good working relationships with colleagues
  • Ability to contribute to community engagement for research
  • A background working directly and closely with Pasifika young people and their families
  • A individual with Pasifika heritage or who is familiar with Pasifika cultural traditions and experiences is preferred
  • A background working directly with justice-involved young people and their families
