On behalf of our client which is a well established health service and community service provider in Northern Melbourne we are seeking a Senior Social Worker for a very unique specialist role that has just become available.

The role will encompass some afternoon shifts and weekends. It is anticipated that the afternoon shift hours will be within the range of 2pm -10.30pm, 1pm-9.30pm, or pm. The role requires flexibility of work hours to meet service demand.

This role is based in North Melbourne, however working closely with VIC Police, you will work out of Mill Hill Police Station, responding to crisis calls where people in the community require assessment for both mental health and domestic and family violence to perform assessments.


Key Responsibilities

  • Conducting crisis mental health and family violence assessments at the request of Vic Police
  • Facilitating timely access to a range of support services that is consistent with client and their family's need
  • Providing secondary case consultation and technical input on complex cases.
  • Operate with all legal frameworks pertinent to both family violence, child safety and mental health
  • Provide brief interventions to a small case load of complex people who experience both mental health and family violence struggles
  • Build & maintain positive relationships with key stakeholders (Mental Health service and police stakeholders to facilitate a partnership and collaborative practice)

About You

  • Qualifications in Counselling, Social Worker, Psychology or similar or relevant sector experience in a similar role
  • Senior Social Worker Level minimum 5 years experience in Mental Health
  • Strong experience working with people who have experienced domestic and family violence
  • Sound Knowledge and demonstrated experience in performing mental health assessment, risk assessment and delivery of therapeutic interventions.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and nurturing stakeholder relationships
