Could you be the Welding Expert based in our Dandenong, VIC site office that we’re looking for?

 

Your future role:

 

As the Welding Expert, you will work closely with Alstom metallic suppliers to support process development, product localisation and supplier industrial transformation. You will support suppliers to achieve full compliance with respective welding standards (EN 15085, AS 1554) and Alstom welding process directives. As an expert in your field, you will work closely with the suppliers on localisation of existing projects, being the conduit between Alstom engineering and industrial functions and the vendors. You will be responsible for assisting with the development of the suppliers to increase their technical capability to meet the demand from Alstom and advise the suppliers on best industry practices, processes and help to implement them. As well as this, you will support SPQD function in conducting FAIs at the supplier premises and review all the related documentation and conduct supplier audits and GEMBA visits, measuring supplier performance, and putting recommendations for improvements.  

 

We’ll look to you for: 

 

  • Reviewing the design, its feasibility for manufacturing, and advising if any changes are required considering supply base capabilities
  • Working closely with the Alstom suppliers at their premises to develop their industrial capability
  • Advising suppliers on welding, cutting and bending processes
  • Interacting with cut and bend parts suppliers, provided needed expertise in manufacturing processes
  • Traveling to suppliers on regular basis for First Article Inspection and Supplier Audits
  • Reviewing supplier documentation (WPS/WPQR/NDT reports/weld maps) in FAI process
  • Answering questions from the suppliers about AT processes, documentation and way of working

 

All about you:

 

  • Tertiary engineering degree (mechanical engineer/welding engineer/metallurgist or similar)
  • Qualified as one of the following - IWE/IWT/IWS/IWI (International Welding Engineer or similar)
  • Knowledge and thorough understanding of the welding, cutting and bending manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to read technical drawings and weld symbols to both EN and AS standards
  • Experience in creating or reviewing welding quality documents (WPQR/WPS/Welders' Qualification Reports/NDT reports)
  • Familiarity with the standards: EN ISO 15085, EN ISO 3834 and EN ISO 9606, EN ISO 15614, AS1554
  • Experience/qualification as an auditor
  • Availability for frequent business travel interstate and overseas
