About the opportunity:

 

Joining Komatsu Australia’s Longwall AFC Applications team in Rutherford, means you’ll be joining a network of world-class engineers and draftspersons as they deliver cutting edge mining projects locally, and on a global scale.

 

Reporting to the Principal Engineer – Australia and joining a local, tight-knit team, as Mechanical Designer you’ll contribute to, and be supported by, the wider Global AFC team that reaches across Europe and the United States.

 

About you:

 

You’re a hands-on mechanical designer, a solution focused professional who places value on the ability to build strong relationships and communicate ideas.

 

Collaboration is key. You’ll lean on your well-developed communication skills to liaise with and provide technical assistance to engineers, manufacturing teams, customers, and other internal stakeholders.

You'll bring:

  • Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Or a Cert IV Engineering Drafting
  • Experience in mechanical equipment design, with experience in medium/heavy fabrications.
  • Experience in the underground mining industry would be highly desirable.
  • 2D and 3D CAD literate with experience using AutoCAD, Inventor, and Vault.
  • Experience with business management systems such as SAP.
  • Familiar with using Australian or ISO standards where applicable.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to travel for work domestically, NSW, QLD (and internationally if required).

 

Key responsibilities:

 

  • Preparing layouts, CAD models, related drawings and bills of material and release production information to provide specifications for customer orders and/or development requirements.
  • Conducting investigations, performing calculations, and assisting tests as required to provide data for design decisions.
  • Adhere to all safety policies and procedures and promote these in all interactions with team members, customers, and suppliers. 
  • Contribute ideas to solve problems that are associated with engineering projects or evaluations.
  • Visit customer sites to observe machine applications, analyse operations and report on visits.
  • Provide technical assistance/liaison to manufacturing.
  • Supporting Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT’s) and mini-builds, documenting official issue-lists and managing actions.
