Randstad is currently assisting a major Queensland State Government Department seeking an experienced Principal Policy Officer to contribute to the Queensland Governmentâs commitment to providing cleaner, reliable and affordable energy that will power more jobs and industries in Queensland.

You will provide high level advice and leadership for the effective delivery of the Divisionâs responsibilities. Your primary role will be to manage projects and contribute to the effective delivery of policy solutions to complex issues facing the energy sector.

We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic policy professional to deliver results in a fast
paced environment.
  • 2 month contract with possible 6 month extension
  • Brisbane CBD office location

    As the Principal Policy Officer, your key responsibilities will include:

    • Conduct and coordinate substantial high level research, analysis and review on complex policy, legislative and regulatory issues related to the energy transformation.
    • Prepare and/or oversee the preparation of complex submissions, briefing notes, legislative drafting instructions, presentations, speeches, publications, reports and correspondence.
    • Manage multiple competing priorities and work either as part of a team, or individually, to deliver workloads on time and which meet customerâs expectations.
    • Liaise, consult and negotiate with other State Government and Commonwealth agencies, Government-owned corporations, market and regulatory entities, energy customers and representative bodies.
    • Exercise judgement to effectively manage competing priorities while working collaboratively with colleagues, or individually, to deliver workloads on time and which meet customerâs expectations.
    • Contribute to a positive and effective team culture by participating in work area goal-setting, service improvement and other Unit/Divisional activities.
    • Represent the department at state/federal conferences, internal/external meetings and committees, and inter-departmental/inter-jurisdictional working groups.
    • Mentor, coach and train staff in an environment that recognises the unique contribution of the individual, encourages personal and team development, and encourages an appropriate work/life balance.
      Technical/operational expertise:
      • Experience in legislation, policy development and/or the application of policy.
      • Experience in communicating with internal and external stakeholders and building relationships to establish mutually beneficial connections.
      • Ability to respond in a fast paced environment and deliver results.
      • Demonstrated experience in managing competing priorities and stakeholder expectations.
      • Proven strong team leadership skills.
